Summer is here in the Texas Hill Country! The countryside is bright green, the creeks are flowing. There are unlimited opportunities for beautiful land and waterscape images.
Resident and migrant birds are active around the feeders and water features at our special photo-blinds and pond. Consequently, there should be plenty of action all day long.
We are looking forward to the Summer photo visitors when our usual migratory birds should be around. This includes buntings, warblers, grosbeaks, orioles, tanagers, flycatchers, kingfishers, purple martins and bluebirds.
Painted buntings and Vermillion Flycatchers are now amazing at Block Creek Natural Area. Currently we can count on interesting birds, including many juveniles, frequenting the photo blinds at Block Creek Natural Area. Some of these species include the Black-chinned and Ruby-throated Hummingbird; Lesser and American Goldfinch; Golden-fronted and Ladder-backed Woodpecker; Lark Sparrow; Vermillion Flycatcher; Eastern Phoebe; Carolina and Canyon Wren; Northern Cardinal; Black-crested Titmouse and Carolina Chicadee.
The Pond offers possibilities of migratory raptors and waterfowl, such as Wood Duck and Whistling Duck. The Belted Kingfisher is occasionally around and we have hopes the resident Green Kingfishers will be there.

In April 2009 we experienced a wildfire on a very small corner of Block Creek Natural Area. It's still really a great image-creating opportunity. We hosted the NANPA Regional Event, and many, many fabulous images came from this aftermath of fire area. It's beginning to recover now, so if you need any images of the landscape in transition, now is the time to schedule your visit!
